Musical Celebration for Vincent on September 27

Stockton United Methodist Church will host a celebration of the music ministry and teaching career of Jacky Vincent at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.

SUMC observed Vincent’s 90th birthday with the gift of a commissioned choral work to commemorate both her birthday and her retirement from the organ bench of the chancel. Arrangements were made for Vincent to collaborate with Missouri composer Mary Lynn Lightfoot in creating a piece based on a favorite scripture or hymn.

The members of the Stockton UMC chancel choir will present the result of that commission, “A Time for Everything,” based on the text of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, during the program. The piece is slated for publication by Choristers Guild Publishing in early 2027 and will serve as a lasting legacy of Vincent’s decades of service to music education and church music in the Stockton community. Family members will host a reception following the presentation.

The celebration and reception are open to the public. Former students of Vincent, friends, colleagues, and community members are invited to join their voices for the event. A rehearsal of the commissioned piece will be held at 1:15 pm in the sanctuary.
