Don’t Toss That Costume: SUMC Collecting Halloween Gear for 2027 Costume Swap

Once Halloween is over, you might be left with costumes that the kids will have outgrown by next October. Stockton United Methodist Go Green Team is collecting those costumes now so they can be exchanged in a community costume swap ahead of Halloween 2027.

This new creation-respecting project has two goals: keep usable costumes out of the landfill and help local families save money. Costumes are often worn once and then discarded or forgotten in a closet, even though they are still in good shape. Giving them a second life makes it easier for kids to find something they love without a new purchase each year. It also keeps harmful microplastics out of our environment.

Drop off your costumes on Sunday, Nov. 1, and Sunday, Nov. 8, during one of two collection periods: from 9:15-9:40 a.m. or from 12:30-2 p.m., at Stockton United Methodist Church, under the portico on the east side of the building. Organizers ask that donated costumes be clean, in good condition, and include all their pieces. Costumes in all sizes, from baby to adult, are welcome. The costumes will be sorted and stored over the coming year.

Dates and details for the 2027 swap will be announced later. For more information, contact Mary Morris at (417) 955-0935.
