Where Our Money Goes

As 2011 ends and we begin another year dedicated to making life better for all, we would like to inform you of the various mission projects of the Stockton United Methodist women’s organization.

We dedicate 60 percent of our Pledges to Mission by sending them to the conference. The other 40 percent of the pledge money and the ample profits from the rummage sales are spent in-state. Most are given locally.

  • We are in charge of the bereavement dinners and memorials for church family members.
  • The Shalom Seekers circle honors Stockton High School graduates each spring and sends “care” packages at the end of each semester to our college students.
  • We sponsor a campership luncheon each spring and give the youth missions program a boost when asked to do so.
  • This year we also gave some donated furniture to the youth area in the church basement.
  • In October we bake pies and have a party to celebrate birthdays at the nursing home.
  • We send CARE packages to soldiers near the fourth of July and Veterans Day.
  • We give $100 each to the UMW projects in Missouri: Della Lamb, Spofford Home, InterServ and Epworth.
  • The Reach Out circle has a very active prayer shawl ministry.
  • In addition to the money we earned at this year’s rummage sales, we gave items worth (in rummage sale prices) more than $740 to projects including Head Start, the UMM jail ministry, Holly Mann and the Barceda emergencies box, the Suit Yourself Boutique for women entering the work force, and the local school clothes closet.
  • We actively recycle and give craft items to classrooms and the art departments at Stockton School and Head Start.
  • We donate to the SAMA Christmas Basket project, the Food Pantry and the Tiger Tasters (weekend food) program.
  • We donate $100 each to Barceda, Heifer project, PET vehicles and Exodus House.
  • We sent baby quilts and other donations (Best Choice labels, eye glasses, etc.) to the Festival of Sharing in October.
  • The comforter project provides warmth for families where needed, especially youth quilts for DFS.
  • Most importantly, as the new year begins, we will expand our mission at the Stockton R-1 School District.
  • We are instrumental in keeping the “clothes closet” stocked with much needed items (especially for the elementary school). We are working with the school nurse, Karen Collins, to provide hygiene items, shoes and coats for students in need. This is proving to be a monumental task.

It takes many hours of labor to do the things we do. So if you are asked to help, please give that request your prayerful consideration.
